So here's the tentative plan...

I went ahead and placed an order for a three pack of Smartipants from Kelly's Closet today.  I probably should have only ordered one, but I went ahead and got the three pack.  Even if I don't LOVE them love them, I'll at least like them enough to use.

I contacted both Craigslist posters and let them know that I had decided to try these before choosing anything else.  Most of the day, I beat myself up over whether or not I had made the right choice in not getting the Happy Heiny snappies that I was going to buy today.  Not only that, but I beat myself up for wasting the seller's time thinking she was going to unload them on me.  I decided that I needed to just get on with my day...it makes more sense to order the Smartipants and see if I like them.  If I love them, I will buy more of them.  If not, I can contact the other seller I had been talking to and buy the 6-7 bG's that she had.  I hope!

For now, we're still doing prefolds in the Bummis Super Whisper wraps during the day, and tonight, for the first time, I used a bumGenius with a newborn insert folded over and stuffed in the front AND the one size insert with the folded over half in the front.  It's not that I don't like the prefold/SWW combo, I do.  It's convenient and it works really well.  I guess I just didn't expect it to be so bulky.  What did I expect?  I got the 4x6x4 prefolds.  That means that when folded in the newspaper fold, there are a total of...man, a lot...28 layers?  I think that's right...anyway, there are a ton of layers between my punkin and the cover.  He is being changed more often than he used to be, usually around 8-10 times as opposed to the 6-8 in disposables.  Still, we've yet to have a leak.  I'm impressed.  Depending on how much I love or hate the Smartipants we ordered, I might go ahead and sell the SWW's.

Levi did a good job with his first experiences cloth diapering today.  I had a baby shower and errands to run this afternoon, so he was home alone with Oliver.  My only complaint is that he didn't put the wet diapers in the diaper pail.  ...he put them in the baby laundry hamper.  Silly boy!  At least there wasn't anything else in the hamper.  I promptly washed the hamper liner after putting the wet dipes in the diaper pail.  *sigh*  He'll learn.  =)

So, I guess now we just keep on truckin' and wait for our fluffy mail to arrive!  I've read nothing but positive reviews on the Smartipants at Diaperpin.com, so hopefully they were being honest.  We shall see, no?

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

thoughts: previously when you said you had leaks or near leaks, I'd say that's b/c you got the 4x6x4 instead of the 4x8x4. It makes a huge difference.

I do not have experience with Smartipants, but maybe someday!

I'm curious about how bulky yours are... We use the Bummis Unbleached Organic PF with the Bummis SWW and SB and SS and of course they are more bulky than sposies, but they are not that bulky really. Totally tolerable.

Also, are you using the right size PF for his age/size? That could make a difference with bulk as well.

The newspaper fold works, but may make it more bulky with the wings. The way my sister taught me for boys is up once, then thirds. For girls, what we do is just thirds opposite the stitches with the PF.

Yes you have to change more, but that's just life and healthy bum!! Think about that gel that was working on the overtime for you before...

Bummis has stay dry covers that are fabulous and pretty much obliterate diaper rash FYI...

The PFs are pretty nice, even for just the 4x6x4. I got that one instead of the 4x8x4 because I thought they would be less bulky.

I guess the bulk isn't too bad...I mean it's definitely bigger than I'm used to with the sposies, but I was just concerned about the way Oliver's legs looked...just looked uncomfortable to me. He does fine, though. I'm using the PFs that are for 15-30 pounds. He is just over 15 pounds.

I'm getting that I have to change more often. Today I kept thinking, eh he'll be fine (because he never cries!), but then I saw the beginnings of a rash, so now I'm changing him when he gets up from a nap and before he goes down. Small price to pay for his health!

I really do like the Bummis SWW's, but man, the pocket diapers are so much more trim and so stinkin' cute in the colors! My SWW's are all white, which is fine, but not as cute, you know? But they work really great...I can rotate between two or three a day and it works great...but I do think I'll be going to pockets pretty much full time as soon as I decide which ones I like best!

And we didn't have leaks...it's just that the PF was more soaked than I thought it would be. I don't know why...I guess I just thought it wouldn't be so wet? Sorry for the confusion! lol
